This great new review of Revolution Mother's album, "Glory Bound" just came across our desks. Check it out:
From Blogcritics.org
"If you are into the skateboarding scene chances are you know who Mike V is. He is easily one of the most unique skateboarders out there not so much because of the way he skates, but because of the way he spreads his love for the sport. Mike V may have his heart attached to his skateboard, but he also shares his passion for what fuels him on a day to day basis, rock n' roll.
This however really is not about just skateboarding.
Enter Revolution Mother, a rock n' roll band fronted by the intimidating Mike V alongside Jason Hampton who were previously together in Mike Vıs first band, Mike V and the Rats. Joining the two are bassist Colin Buis and drummer Brendan Murphy, both of Twilight Transmission a post-hardcore act. Combined the foursome recorded Glory Bound together, making sure it was a little different from previous creations and full of rock n' roll. The CD was released on Cement Shoes Records.
In spite of what many of you may think about a professional skateboarder trading his board for the microphone, Mike V delivers. His voice perfectly aligns with the heavier sounding rock the rest of the band lashes out. Honestly I did not think he had it in him. But as soon as the first song started I knew I was in for something good.
Opening full force is "Come On" with Mike V just about shattering his vocal chords over the Clutch-like sounding guitars. At times I almost mistook Mike V's laugh for Henry Rollins during the track, it is just so evil sounding. "Above The Crawl" continues the weighted rock sounds with Mike V belting out hardcore-like vocals with straight up rock n' roll.
Mike V calms down a little on "Bullet," with him singing more than screaming but the rock keeps flowing. Again his voice reminds me a lot of Rollins, and the same can be said for the singing on "Burning From Inside." Both songs sound great and remind me a lot of nineties rock acts that surfaced once the grunge scene dissolved.
Covering Black Sabbath's "Hole In The Sky" was no problem for Revolution Mother as they kept the song heavy and solid throughout. "Who Am I" whispered its way though, making for a sluggish track that was nonetheless interesting with the spoken word feel to it.
It is easy for me to say fans of Guns n Roses and Clutch would get a kick out of this album, as it is just rock n' roll from start to finish. I also think fans of punk and hardcore who are open to experimenting with listening to new things would value this release as you can hear hints of both genres throughout. Itıs like skate-rock meets motorcycle bad-ass music for everyone.
Glory Bound is a full out rock attack geared towards all types of music lovers. Mike V and crew put together a really great effort on this CD and I have to admit I was not expecting it. Look for the foursome this summer performing live at the Van's Warped Tour 2008 and witness them for yourself. This band is going places."

Come along as we follow Mike Vallely, literally the hardest working man in show business, on the Warped Tour with his band Revolution Mother. On tour for 60 days, he plays two shows a day, and then skates a full session on the Warped ramp before packing up and heading for the next city.
Then back to reality, we join Mike at home with his family as he decompresses from the tour, and explains what it's like to have a life where one day you're a rock star, and the next you're a responsible father.
As Mike likes to say, "Sometimes we rock and sometimes we roll." In this "Firsthand," you'll witness all that and much, much more.

Bad Religion are some seriously righteous dudes.
I said it every night from stage over the course of these last two weekends that we (Revolution Mother) have gigged with them but it definitely needs to also go down in black and white and read all over.
Over the past summer we had the privilege of seeing Bad Religion play every single day on the Warped Tour and we were stoked. For us it was a perk of being on the tour, getting to see a band day in and day out that has been the soundtrack for many seasons of our lives.
Bad Religion are one of the last true iconic punk bands still making great and inspired music. And they are one of the few bands anymore that I can still name all the members of: Hetson, Graffin, Jay, Brian Baker, Mr. Brett and Brooks. A serious line-up and just a great band on record and to see live.
While we were out on Warped Tour, doing our thing, playing on a small stage with no advertisement or real promotion but still hitting it hard everyday; weıd pick our heads up sometimes to see Jay Bentley or Greg Hetson or Brian Baker in the audience watching us and it tripped us the fuck out.
We eventually became friendly with these guys and sometime in late July we began talking with Jay Bentley about doing some dates together. He knew then about these shows in March of 2008 and said he would do his best to get us on a few of the shows. We were stoked.
Now, a lot of people talk but few ever truly deliver. But true to his word Jay hit me up just after the new year and offered us 5 shows: 3 in La, 1 in Anaheim and 1 in Ventura. As a band, this was an opportunity we really embraced; getting to play good venues with a band we respect and are fans of.
And through the course of playing these shows our admiration for Bad Religion and for everyone in their camp has only grown. These guys watched our set every night, always had an encouraging and supportive word for us before and after the shows and as a band they always put on a killer show. Itıs very rare you get to meet people you respect from the outside and manage to keep that respect in tact when itıs all said and done. With Bad Religion our respect for them has only grown.
These 5 Bad Religion shows over the past two weekends are the last Revolution Mother shows for a little while. As they say in the business, we are taking a short hiatus. Our guitar player Jason Hampton and his wife are expecting a baby girl in May, Iım working on a movie from April 1 May 17 in Boston and the band is going to use some downtime to write and start recording our next record.
We already have quite a few new really good songs and this next record seems like itıs going to be one that writes itself. We are really inspired right now and the riffs and words are coming with ease; which is drastically different from when we set out to make "Glory Bound." We feel like we have really hit our stride and that we are truly primed to make a record of substance.
So the guys will be writing and recording while Iım in Boston working on this film. The movie is a Happy Madison production of a Kevin James comedy and I have a true role in the film. Itıs not a lame cameo or some mere stunt work but a true integral role in the film and something Iım very excited about.
I have been a Kevin James fan for sometime and a fan of all the Happy Madison films so to get to be in this film and work with Kevin James is a great honor. The script is laugh out loud funny and Iım certain this film will be one worthy of seeing when it comes out. I will keep you all posted on the progress of things in Boston right here in my blog so definitely check back often.
In the meantime, it is Spring Break this week for my kids so, itıs time for me to check out and hang with the family. As always thanks for stopping by and for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated.
And go buy a Bad Religion record.
Peace.

Revolution Mother played the Granada Theater in Dallas, TX two nights ago and if you were one of the lucky 700 people in attendance and made it out alive... consider yourself lucky. Revolution Mother slaughtered everything and everyone in their path.
Taken from Dallas Observer:
"Special kudos to Revolution Mother, one of the opening acts. Hailing from Long Beach, this grimy quartet rocked like early MC5 and Motorhead, shouting "motherfucker" at every opportunity and wallowing in everything great about simplistic, monolithic rock and roll. The cover of Black Flag's "Thirsty and Miserable" was just one highlight of Revolution Mother's engaging performance." -- Darryl Smyers
